5G TRIALS
The applications of telecom companies such us Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and MTNL for 5G trials in India have approved by Union government's Department of Telecom on Tuesday. None of these companies will be using gear from any chinese company for the trials. The list of telecom gear makers approved for trails include Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, C-DOT and Reliance Jio indigenously developed technologies.
The applicant Telecom Service Providers(TSPs) include Bharati Airtel Ltd, Vodafone Idea Ltd and MTNL. "BSNL will conduct trials separately. Their applications will come soon", said by Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash.
Initially ,Bharati Airtel and Vodafone Idea had submitted proposals to carry out trials using Huawei, but later they submitted separate application without partnering with Chinese vendors.
According to Department of Telecom(DOT) officials, DOT approved options that were given by telecom operators and evaluation of Vodafone Idea proposal to conduct trials in partnership with Mavenir (Mavenir is an American telecommunications software company established in 2017) is still under evaluation.
DOT explains that 5G technology is expected to deliver ten times better download speed than that of 4G and up to three times greater spectrum efficiency.
